Linbrooke Design Services provide high quality E&P [M&E], Signalling and Telecoms Engineering solutions to the Rail Industry. The post holder is required to undertake both detailed design and checking of Telecoms design and Telecoms schemes. Ensuring designs meet customer requirements, are compliant with technical, safety, environmental and quality standards. Develop engineering solutions to proposals to best satisfy the business case.



  • Undertake the preparation and checking of design details associated with operational telecommunication & SISS systems that includeFTN/FTNx
    o SPT & PZT allocation
    o Jumper schedules
    o Telephone Concentrator Systems
    o Copper Cable Networks
    o Fibre Optic Networks
    o PDH Networks / SDH Networks
    o Radio Systems including GSM-R
    o Immunisation, earthing and bonding (EMC)
    o CCTV Systems (Analogue and Digital)
    o Public Address/LLPA/PAVA Systems
    o Customer Information Systems
    o Ticket Vending machines
    o Help Points
    o WAN’s/LANs
    o Structured Cabling Telephone Systems (Analogue/Digital and VOIP)
    o Wi-Fi
  • Verify that detailed engineering designs and scheme development activities, result in schemes that are affordable, and that meet programme requirements in a safe and environmentally responsible manner to time, cost and quality
  • Undertake the development of engineering options giving consideration to safety, reliability, operational capacity modelling, maintainability, ease of construction, environmental and whole life issues. Engineering excellence is to be supported by:
    a. Securing all relevant base data
    b. Review compliance with appropriate standards
    c. Use risk identification and evaluation methods as suitable, to evaluate and compare options.
    d. Use feedback from all relevant past projects across the UK rail network (and any other railway infrastructure including overseas as applicable), lessons learned and customer feedback to improve quality of design
    e. Keeping designers up to date in signalling technology via training, briefings and mentoring
  • Maintain strict change control on scope development; evaluate cost, time and performance impacts in conjunction with the Design Manager and project engineers as appropriate
  • Undertake the preparation of the full engineering data package required for commencement of the detailed design and participate in answering clarifications / queries as needed. Advise on practical solutions where infrastructure deficiencies have been raised.
  • Liaise with Designated Project Engineers throughout the project on inter-discipline matters
  • Undertake site visits including organising and undertaking correlation
  • Lead specialist investigations / surveys, analyse results and report to the relevant authorities
  • Deal with technical correspondence, liaise with customers, attend meetings, and assist in estimating, planning and workload allocation of the group
  • As required and agreed act as Telecoms CRE on projects

  •  5 Years detailed Telecoms design experience on varying projects with regards to technology and complexity
