Linbrooke Services Ltd provide high quality Telecommunications, Security, Power and Civil Engineering solutions to the Rail Industry.

 

Under the direction of a senior quantity surveyor, a capable Quantity Surveyor (QS) is required to support the delivery rail telecoms, signalling and power engineering works across the UK mainland. The QS will undertake both the X (expenditure) and Y (income), commercial and contractual elements of project delivery.  Projects are delivered for Network Rail and train operating companies under various forms of contract including ICC, ICE, MF NEC3, JCT and bespoke.  Projects range in value from £50,000 to £20m – lump sum and target cost.

Working closely with the project managers, the QS will assist in ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget and in line with defined targets.  The role is office based at HQ in Sheffield.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Providing the post contract quantity surveying
  • Evaluating and managing contractual risks
  • Preparation of interim and final payment applications
  • Upstream and downstream financial job control and budgeting
  • Procurement of sub-contract and supply packages
  • Working closely with the PM to provide efficient project delivery
  • Preparation and pricing of variations to base contract
  • General assistance with contract administration and correspondence
  • Identification and time and money evaluation of changes to work scope
  • Attend internal and external business meetings

  • Self-starting and shows initiative
  • Technical/professional qualifications (and PTS desirable)
  • Experience of a contracting environment
  • Working understanding of planning & scheduling
  • Understanding of procurement and price
  • Numerate and capable with spreadsheets
  • Understanding of health and safety best practice and legislation
  • Comfortable dealing efficiently with large volumes of data and communications
  • Working understanding of financial project delivery and the object of ensuring projects are delivered within budget and value engineered to achieve gains
  • Strong personal organisational and business administration skills in accordance with best practice
  • Ability to work productively, efficiently, effectively and maintain drive under tight timescales and pressure whilst maintaining attention to detail and quality of work
  • Willingness to learn, improve and adapt
  • Good computer skills and competency in applications – outlook, excel & word
  • Prepared to work outside the normal working hours to meet particular needs and objectives
