Railway Radio Systems Interdisciplinary Turnkey Solutions
Network Rail acknowledge their existing analogue radio system has become life expired and difficult to maintain. This led to employment of new technology using a digital platform and the adoption of GSM-R, an international standard for radio communications. To upgrade the existing national radio network to digital standard has been an immense task. Particularly, to effectively operate digital radio requires the renewal of the entire lineside fibre and copper network together with new telecommunication masts and equipment rooms across the country.
Project Overview
Linbrooke has installed extensive radio based works for Network Rail nationally. Including repeater infill sites with masts up to 8 metres tall. Large scale leakey feeder installations in tunnels. An example is the work completed for Mersey Rail to install 11km of leaky feeder. Access was afforded by using a novel six man elevating platform to facilitate clip and cable installation.
GRSM-R supports the safe operation of ETCS Level 2 train control. Linbrooke undertook reinstatement of GSM-R services for Network Rail to provide additional data capacity at their Innovation and Development centre (RIDC) in the Midlands.
Linbrooke were engaged to upgrade the GSM-R coverage to cope with the extra traffic that Crossrail services will require. The design provides seamless coverage between the tunnel radiating infrastructure and the existing fringe boundaries
